Primary Purpose

Primary Purpose
The IT Systems/Network Administrator is responsible for designing, configuring, deploying, and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-availability of IT systems and network infrastructure for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). This role encompasses both on-premises environments, such as Microsoft Domain services, and cloud-based networking solutions, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The administrator leverages expertise in Cisco, Fortinet, and Ubiquiti technologies, alongside cloud networking tools, to ensure robust system performance, security, and business continuity.

Essential Functions

1.Microsoft Domain and Cloud Identity Management:

a. On-Premises: Design, configure, and deploy Microsoft Active Directory
Domain Services (AD DS) for on-premises environments, including user
management, group policies, and security configurations.

b. Cloud Alternative: Implement and manage cloud-based identity and access
management (IAM) solutions, such as Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD),
AWS IAM, or Google Cloud Identity, for hybrid or fully cloud-based environments.

c. Maintain and troubleshoot Domain Controllers, DNS, DHCP, and cloud IAM
integrations to ensure high availability and performance.

d. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for both on-premises and cloud environments.

2. Network Infrastructure Design and Deployment:

a. On-Premises: Design and deploy advanced, high-availability network
infrastructure tailored to SMB needs, including LAN, WAN, and WLAN
configurations using Cisco, Fortinet, and Ubiquiti hardware (e.g., routers,
switches, firewalls, wireless access points).

b. Cloud Alternative: Design and deploy cloud-native network architectures
using Azure Virtual Networks (VNet), AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), or
Google Cloud VPC, including subnets, routing, and network security groups.

c. Configure and manage hybrid network connectivity (e.g., Azure
ExpressRoute, AWS Direct Connect, Google Cloud Interconnect) to integrate
on-premises and cloud infrastructures.

d. Optimize network performance, security, and scalability through VLANs,
QoS, advanced routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and cloud-native
networking features.

3. VPN and Secure Connectivity Solutions:

a. On-Premises: Design, configure, and deploy advanced VPN solutions (e.g.,
IPsec, SSL VPN) for secure remote access and site-to-site connectivity using
Cisco, Fortinet, and Ubiquiti platforms.

b. Cloud Alternative: Implement cloud-based VPN and secure connectivity
solutions, such as Azure VPN Gateway, AWS Site-to-Site VPN, or Google
Cloud VPN, for secure access to cloud resources and hybrid environments.

c. Ensure VPN and cloud connectivity configurations meet security standards
and provide reliable access for remote employees and branch offices.

d. Monitor and troubleshoot VPN performance and security issues across on-premises and cloud environments.

4. System and Network Maintenance:

a. Perform regular maintenance, updates, and patch management for on-premises servers, network devices, and cloud-based resources.

b. Monitor network performance and security using tools like SolarWinds,
PRTG, FortiAnalyzer, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, or Google Cloud
Operations Suite.

c. Respond to and resolve system and network incidents, ensuring minimal
downtime for both on-premises and cloud environments.

5. Security and Compliance:

a. Implement and manage security measures for on-premises networks (e.g.,
firewalls, IDS/IPS) and cloud environments (e.g., Azure Security Center, AWS Shield, Google Cloud Armor).

b. Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA, GDPR) for both on-premises and cloud-based systems.

c. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments across hybrid
environments.

5. Security and Compliance:

a. Implement and manage security measures for on-premises networks (e.g.,
firewalls, IDS/IPS) and cloud environments (e.g., Azure Security Center, AWS Shield, Google Cloud Armor).

b. Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA, GDPR) for
both on-premises and cloud-based systems.

c. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments across hybrid
environments.

6. Documentation and Training:

a. Create and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations,
network diagrams, and cloud architecture designs.

b. Provide training and support to end-users and junior IT staff on-premises and
cloud-based system/network usage.

7. Vendor and Project Management:

a. Collaborate with vendors for procurement, licensing, and support of on-premises hardware/software and cloud services.

b. Lead or contribute to IT projects, such as network upgrades, cloud
migrations, or hybrid infrastructure deployments.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related
field (or equivalent experience).

Associate degree with relevant certifications and extensive experience may
be considered.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT systems and network
administration, including both on-premises and cloud environments.

Proven experience in designing, configuring, and deploying Microsoft Active Directory on-premises and cloud-based identity solutions (e.g., Microsoft
Entra ID, AWS IAM, Google Cloud Identity).
